Helping the Injured Recover Maximum Compensation for More Than Three Decades

Automobile accidents are a scary experience and can have significant financial and emotional ramifications for injured victims. When that accident involves a commercial truck, the effects are even greater. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), there are more than 10 million registered commercial trucks in the United States. Commercial truck drivers travel thousands of miles each year across the country and are often carrying large loads and potentially hazardous cargo. At McCann Dillon Jaffe & Lamb, LLC, LLC, our Philadelphia truck accident lawyers have significant experience helping victims injured in crashes with commercial trucks recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages and emotional distress. We’re ready to fight for you and your best interests.

Commercial Drivers are Subject to Enhanced Road Skills Testing and Licensing Procedures

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation recently adopted a new series of commercial driver skills tests. There are three segments that drivers must pass before they are issued a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL):

  • Vehicle inspection – Both the internal and external areas of the vehicle are inspected for potential safety hazards and the driver must pass a vehicle inspection test that may include an engine start, inspection of the coupling system or in-cab inspection.
  • Basic Controls Skills Test – This test requires drivers to perform one or more tasks such as
    • Straight line backing
    • Offset back/right of back/left
    • Parallel parking
    • Alley docks
  • On the Road Skills Test – During the on-road test, drivers are required to travel a route and successfully navigate through a variety of common traffic situations.

Commercial Truck Accidents Account for a Significant Number of Serious Crashes

The FMCSA tracks commercial vehicle statistics from various motor vehicle agencies. There were more than 4,000 fatal commercial truck accidents in 2015 alone. More than 87,000 crashes involved serious injuries and 342,000 led to significant property damage. Our attorneys work hard to fully investigate your case and gather evidence from police records and accident reconstruction experts to support your claims. It is important to seek legal advice as soon as possible after an accident to ensure that your rights are preserved and you have the best chance of a positive outcome.
